Are You Getting Enough Sleep?
Since I suffer from fibromyalgia, an autoimmune disorder, I need to be sure I’m getting enough sleep. Ideally, I’d get 7-8 hours a night, but that’s not always how things work out for me.
Using my phone to follow my favorite Instagram accounts late into the evening isn’t ideal since studies have shown that the EMF’s and the bright lights of the screen keep your mind zooming and certainly don’t allow you to start winding down. Apparently, computers and mobile phones they suppress melatonin.
I try my best to get into a comfy bed and read the NY Times on my old-fashioned 1st gen Kindle. I set the backlight at the lowest setting so that it’s not shining in my face. And if I wake up in the middle of the night with my mind racing on what I have to do the next day, I grab it and try reading a bit more, which then makes my eyes sleepy and I can usually drift off again.
I also bought this special lightbulb for my nightstand that helps me start to wind down as well.
Wearing comfy PJ’s to keep me warm but not hot is also key for me, so I often dress in layers so I can adjust as needed by adding a comfy cotton tank like this one that’s only $10.
